Nintendo showcased this in an impressive June Nintendo Direct that opened with a wonderfully delightful surprise: a completely new Mario & Luigi role-playing game. Following 2015’s Paper Jam for 3DS, Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood marks the first entry in the beloved series of brotherly turn-based RPGs in more than a decade.

More importantly, it’s the first since the unfortunate shutdown of series developer AlphaDream in 2019. Nevertheless, according to Nintendo, Brothership is being created by several of the original developers from the earlier games. Regardless, I managed to play it for roughly 90 minutes at a preview event, and it seems to be shaping up as another late-life success for the original Switch, featuring some of the finest graphics that the console can provide alongside enjoyable action.
